Ouroboros
What is in a symbol? In the world today our interpretation of things has stepped away from luscious descriptions through beautiful words to small, humanoid pictures of brief emotions or actions. Of course some might argue that we are reverting back to our roots of pictures “saying” a thousand words and the more ancient forms of communication like hieroglyphics and pictorial languages used by indigenous people of parts of North America as we embrace texting through emojis.
A symbol can be a very powerful thing. And in businesses we have equated these to logos. So what is Healing Motion’s logo and why does it matter? You might notice that on my website you see two circles, one inside the other. The inner circle is a snake and the outer circle looks like a stalk of wheat. The snake is an interpretation of an Ouroboros. The outer circle represents a sprig of lavender.
The ouroboros or uroboros (/ˌ(j)ʊərəˈbɒrəs/, also UK: /uːˈrɒbərɒs/, US: /-oʊs/) is an ancient symbol depicting a serpent or dragon eating it’s own tail. ... The ouroboros is often interpreted as a symbol for eternal cyclic renewal or a cycle of life, death, and rebirth. Lavender is used in aromatherapy as a calming scent and represents serenity. These two symbols together represent the essence of Healing Motion.
While some people might not be very comfortable with snakes, however, they are extremely powerful healing symbols and have been embraced by a multitude of traditional belief systems and cultures. Healing Motion is a place to discover, restore and transcend through somatic practices, very similar to the continual cycle of life (discovering our innate wisdom), death (restoring our embodied strength), and rebirth (transcendence to overall wellbeing). And this process is enveloped in a calm and serene space (the lavender sprig); one that we create together as our journey develops. I look forward to continuing on our path together, and hopefully this little insight into Healing Motion’s logo and symbolic representation might be an offering to exploring your own cycle of renewal and space of serenity.
